A significant partnership has been forged between the Ghana Badminton Association and Special Olympics Ghana, through a memorandum of understanding, with the aim of nurturing badminton talent among players with disabilities.
In attendance at the signing were Mr. Evans Yeboah, President of the Ghana Badminton Association, Mr. Ebenezer Owusu, Board Chairman of Special Olympics Ghana, Alhaji Kamal Sulley from the Rowing and Canoeing Federation, and other notable dignitaries.
Dr. Ebenezer Owusu underscored the organization’s mission to empower children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through sports. He disclosed that badminton is the latest addition to their portfolio, complementing existing programs in football, athletics, and table tennis.
Highlighting the partnership’s benefits, Mr. Evans Yeboah mentioned the training of teachers to instruct badminton to individuals with disabilities and certifying them with coaching courses.
He also emphasized the provision of technical education and the potential to train kids in badminton, culminating in the formation of a national team for Ghana. Mr. Yeboah praised Special Olympics Ghana, noting that this collaboration will facilitate the Ghana Badminton Association’s outreach to all genders with disabilities.
