The Ghana Taekwondo Federation has reposed confidence in Mr. Frederick Otu by electing him to helm the organization for the forthcoming administration. Mr. Otu garnered 16 votes, narrowly edging out his former deputy, Mr. Charles Tsibo Cromwell, who secured 11 votes.
In a keenly contested vice presidential election, Maxwell Theodore Alornyo emerged victorious with 14 votes, while Hamidu Abdel-Fatao garnered 10 votes and Martin Prince Oppan secured 3 votes. Four candidates vied for the two board membership positions, with Kankpenuba Peter N. Wisdom and Simon Koku Gluikpor securing 16 votes each. Stephen Amagashie received 12 votes, and Terrance Asare garnered 10 votes.
The newly elected President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu, expressed gratitude to the electorate for conducting a peaceful and transparent election under the aegis of the vetting and election committee, chaired by Mr. Lawrence Osei-Boateng Esq. Mr. Otu appointed Mr. Wisdom Kankpenuba as Secretary-General of the federation, in accordance with the federation’s rules.
He appealed to his colleagues to present a united front following the election and urged the media to report the proceedings responsibly. Additionally, he acknowledged the spirited campaign waged by his former vice president.
Mr. Richard Akporkavie Esq, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, congratulated the federation on a successful election, emphasizing the need for unity to drive growth and benefits for the athletes, and charged the newly elected executive board to facilitate athlete qualification for the 2028 Olympics.
